Decks for Columbia's Century-Old Craftsman Homes
The Columbia neighborhood is one of Bellingham's oldest and best-loved: streets of craftsman bungalows and foursquares built in the early 1900s, mature trees, Elizabeth Park at its heart, and, from the upper streets, glimpses of Bellingham Bay between the rooftops. Building a deck here is not like bolting a platform onto a suburban two-story. It is carpentry on houses with real character, on compact city lots, for homeowners who care how the finished work sits against hundred-year-old architecture. That is exactly the kind of project Alpine Exteriors likes best.
Much of our Columbia work falls into two categories. The first is rebuilding original or previously replaced front porches, keeping the proportions, column style, and railing rhythm that make these blocks feel the way they do, while hiding modern structure, flashing, and footings underneath. The second is backyard and side-yard decks that add genuine outdoor living space to lots where every square foot counts, often stepping down a slope or wrapping a corner to catch afternoon light or a slice of bay view.
