Siding That Stands Up to Orcas Island Weather
Orcas is the hilly one, and that shapes everything about siding here. Homes climb from the shoreline at Deer Harbor and West Sound up into forested slopes, and Mount Constitution rises high enough that properties on its flanks see noticeably harsher weather than the village of Eastsound below. Salt air moves inland from every direction on an island shaped like a pair of saddlebags, and while the San Juans sit in the Olympic rain shadow and stay drier than the mainland, wind exposure and marine moisture more than make up for it. Siding on Orcas fails at the fasteners and the flashing long before the boards themselves give out, so that is where our attention goes.
Alpine Exteriors has been installing and repairing siding for 25 years, and island work has taught us discipline that mainland jobs never demand. Every screw, every trim board, every tube of sealant rides the ferry from Anacortes with us. We plan materials down to the piece, because a forgotten box of stainless nails costs a day, not a lunch break.
