To transform a barely used outdoor living space into one that adds value to the home, a well-constructed deck is a must-have. At Alpine Siding, we are experts in custom decking designed to meet your needs and match the character of each house where it is built. In order to make an enlightened decision that fits your lifestyle and maintenance needs, it is crucial that you know about the different decking materials available. Herald Sun+5 Architectural Digest+5 This Old House+5 Types of Decking Materials Natural Wood Decking Natural wood is still a perennial favorite because of its classic beauty and more traditional appeal. Choices such as cedar and redwood have been appreciated for their durability and rich color. Wood decking, nevertheless, requires upkeep like staining and sealing to protect itself from the ravages of weathering, rot and insects. If not properly cared for, wood may fade or splinter with time and exposure to the weather. Stress-Treated Wood To inhibit rot and insect attack, any lumber must endure chemical injection besides being more durable than unprocessed wood. Stress-treated wood may, in spite of its greater longevity, still contort or fragment over time and generally needs annual maintenance to stay looking good as well as structurally sound.
Siding isn’t just about looks—it’s the first line of defense for your home. It protects against moisture, pests, wind, and sun while significantly influencing energy efficiency and resale value. But not all siding is created equal. Here’s what you need to know before making a decision.
Composite Decking Composite decking is made from a blend of plastic materials and wood fibers, a low-maintenance alternative that offers high performance compared with conventional wood. It resists fading, staining and marring; no painting or sealing is necessary. Composite boards are available in an array of colors and textures that simulate natural wood. Although the initial cost may be higher, composite decking is durable and requires little upkeep over time so long as it can be considered an investment in one’s future enjoyment.
PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) Decking
PVC decking offers unparalleled moisture, insect, and rot resistance since it’s made entirely from plastic. In addition, it’s lightweight, low-maintenance, and comes in a variety of colors. Compared to others, it stays cooler underfoot. Very comfortable during the hot summer months. But it might not have the natural look or even durability of wood and at times is more expensive than other options.
Aluminum Decking
Aluminum decking is durable and low-maintenance, resisting corrosion, rot, and insect damage. It also has flame-retardant properties and good slip resistance, even when wet. Lightweight aluminum can withstand some of the harshest weather that nature will throw at it and as such promises to be a long-lasting surface. But it take a larger up-front investment, and in many cases looks more industrial than other materials.

Sehome washington has a rich history marked by early settlement, industrial growth, and cultural development. Each phase has shaped its community and environment.
Sehome was settled gradually starting in the 1850s; when American pioneers began arriving here then. At first, in these days the area was sparsely populated. The original inhabitants were primarily various coastal tribes such as Lummi and Nooksack who had lived in what is now western Washington and southwestern British Columbia long before Europeans arrived. However, with the signing of treaties like the Point Elliott Treaty in 1855, many American Indian tribes were forced by the United States government to cede their lands to it.=’5 }`}
In the late 1800s, Sehome saw an influx of settlers drawn by fertile land. Other attractions included timber and its proximity to the harbor. The first recorded settler came in 1858 when Samuel H. Lewis established the Sehome townsite. As the adjacent town of Bellingham grew swiftly, this area also began to expand.
Sehome’s industrial development started in real earnest in the late 1800s. It evolved from rich natural resources surrounding it and a convenient position on the waterfront. The nearby hills and forests had plenty of timber, while the water’s edge made it ideal for such activities as shipbuilding or fishing. The Pacific Northwest underwent a period of rapid economic expansion. Sehome became a focus of industrial activity almost immediately after that.
Sehome’s industrial growth was further accelerated with the arrival of the railroad in the 1880s. With essential infrastructure in place, timber and coal could be transported to markets, and local industries thrived. The role that coal mining played in Sehome’s development is significant, and several mines were established in the area. On top of coal and timber, the region’s proximity to Bellingham Bay helped it become a major fishing and shipbuilding centre.
The culture and social environment of Sehome changed as it grew into an industrial area. All newcomers, whether from Europe or Scandinavia, blended in together, and Sehome became a ” melting pot ” of different cultures. Early settlers brought with them traditions and customs which were to help mould the character of this community in later years, so that Sehome is rich in folklore and cultural traditions today as well is based firmly on traditional values from its past as a pioneer settlement area.
The construction of schools, churches and community centres in Sehome during the last quarter of the 19th and early part of the 20th centuries all played substantial parts in drawing and binding together community life. Maximising the potential Which history had meant for that day was the founding of social clubs, fraternal organizations, civic groups, etc.
Sehome washington has a variety of siding options, reflecting its unique climate and style preferences. Many homeowners choose materials based on durability, aesthetics, and local availability.
Made from recycled materials, composite boards are available in a variety of colors and textures that mimic real wood without the upkeep. A more modern, sophisticated look is being sought by both home decorators with their emphasis on overall color themes rather than individual items and garden designers who are using cut stone floors throughout the yard. As a hard but beautiful natural element for decking, stone options such as flagstones or slate are gaining popularity at Sehome. Although maintenance will still be required in order for these materials to last inside a year without cracking and splitting, quiet power washes clean off dirt every spring will keep them looking like new for decades.
Brick and stone veneers, which are often used on the outside of buildings like Causeway Place (The Bricks), are now coming outside and incorporating outdoor areas like decks. These choices give a rich, traditional feel that works well with land-scape design at a high level or old-fashioned architectural styles. Stone veneer offers a similar natural look to the real thing, but it is lighter and can be more readily installed than actual stone. That makes it an attractive choice for building an outdoor deck which will be both durable as well as beautiful.
At the same time, if you are like many homeowners who hope to cut down on upkeep and for that reason purchase more expensive material-vinyl or fiber cement may be perfect for your needs. Vinyl Decking is a type of decking material that is made from PVC. It is not only colorfast but also can resist scratches and wet.
